For all of Singapore's modernity...it still has to be dragged kicking and screaming to the 21st century in some aspects. I actually think that the station and the show's producers knew what they were doing and were banking on getting more ratings, I mean sure 15K SGD is a lot of money for a person, but not for a network. On other things...check this video out. Made me a little teary-eyed.

Last Thursday, Feb 28, was a bad day for me. I won't go into details what the day entailed because it is such a sore spot for me and what I would consider a great lapse in judgment that is bordering on stupidity (if not all out stupidity). Anyway, after sleeping the day off, I wake up to see that a friend is inviting me to go catch a movie. Daybreak. Even though I saw it before, I thought, well why not. Coco Martin, one of the lead actors in the film, just might lighten up my mood.

My favorite scene in the movie is when they started to dance. Where they just looked at each other. Talked about what they were to each other, clumsily but very telling. The song really complimented the scene.... and it touched me deeply. Here is the song.... (I posted the lyrics and will try to translate it to english but I know I won't do it justice).

"I'm a banana!" I shouted as a punchline to a joke the other day while chatting with a few friends. I got blank stares from my friends. I knew they missed the pop culture reference. For everyone out there who, like me, can't stand missing out on pop culture references....here is the source of that punchline. :P

Just this past sunday, a few of us were idly chatting and we somehow got into the topic of escort services. Male escort services to be specific. More appropriately the lack of such services here in Manila or maybe just the lack of information about it, we weren't really sure but either way it beggars the question why is that. Yes, we have heard of the tales of male celebrities being hired as "escorts", these are not the types that we were talking about. We were talking about highly educated and presentable escorts that one hires, usually by a foreigner, to accompany them to a social event or just as a tour guide/ companion for the day or week that he/she is in town.

Is there a law that does not allow such businesses? No, I am not so naive as to say that there probably isn't any hanky panky that will eventually occur in such an involved service oriented business. There usually is. Still if places like Singapore can have such escort sevices, why not Manila where it is more "lax". Any one knows?

Inline with this, I found this video of one of the "Imbestigador" show segments where they apprehend the owner of an escort service business. It seemed that he was arrested on the basis of pimping the girls....I wasn't too clear however if the guy did "pimp" the girls for sex. There didn't seem to be any transaction of that sort caught on tape. Was it a baseless assumption then? Anyway, here is the clip, tell me what you guys think.
