About a month ago a small company called
Figureprints reared its pretty head onto the gaming world. Specifically the WoW gaming world. Besides the obvious appeal of the product this also appealed to the engineering side of me.
When I was still working as a Mechanical Electronic Consumer Product Design Engineer (*whew* try saying that twice as fast in a party), I would be making a lot of prototypes. I would basically design a product, be it an audio system or printer, over in a 3D
CAD system and have a prototype made through a process called
SLA. Yes, too much acronyms, jargons and technical stuff being tossed around. I apologize.
Besides the obvious draw of Figureprints, I am actually more interested in the technology behind the product. I have actually listened to several interviews with one of the owners of the company and to my great surprise (and later on, hours of "imagineering") found that it actually merges the basics of the SLA process and printer techology! Why is this so exciting for me? I basically worked with SLA to produce possibly new printer technology and it never crossed my mind to merge the two! It's like a damn orgy of sorts for me! Would I like to see that baby at work, must be a sight.
Yes. I told you guys I was a geek.

One of my favorite webcomics,
Penny Arcade also made a funny jab at the product and its possible consequences. lolz
( Read the comic )*This has got to be my most link extensive post to date.....or at least the post with the most "<>" to make use of those "fancy" LJ tricks. Yes...I'm usually too lazy to bother with those. :P
